What is the Career Mobility Program?
UofL Health is excited to partner with Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC) to offer an alternative path to nursing, The Career Mobility Program (CMP). This program offers two ways to achieve a nursing career through the Patient Care Associate to Licensed Practical Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse to Registered Nurse tracks.
While enrolled in the LPN- RN track, students can begin taking classes through the University of Louisville to obtain their Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Participants will maintain concurrent employment with UofL Health working as a PCA or LPN on weekend shifts while attending JCTC’s nursing program during the week.
CMP participants will receive tuition reimbursement which will be deferred; payment processed each semester on behalf of the participant upon successful completion of approved coursework. Participants of this program are eligible for tuition reimbursement immediately upon hire.
Participants will be hired to work on one of UofL Health’s units in a weekend position (WOW) while attending school. WOW hourly incentive pay and HR benefits included.
What is the eligibility to apply?
- High school diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support accredited by the American Heart Association
- Eligibility to enroll in JCTC Nursing Program (LPN or LPN- RN Bridge)
- Ongoing good withstanding as a UofL Health Employee

What are the deadlines to apply for the Career Mobility Program?

How do I know if I need to take pre-requisites?

How long does the program take?
Depending on prerequisites, the LPN and LPN-RN bridge can be completed in about a year.
Is there a work commitment?
Yes, the work commitment is twelve months from the date of last reimbursement. This twelve-month commitment will be applicable for each reimbursement that is received.
How does the tuition payment work?
A deferral letter will be sent to Jefferson Community and Technical College’s Bursar office on employee’s behalf indicating that they are a participant in the Career Mobility Program; and wish to utilize tuition assistance from UofL Health.
What are my options when I graduate?
Seamlessly enroll and continue with the pathway! If you graduate with an LPN degree, enroll, and obtain your RN degree. Graduate with RN, earn your BSN through University of Louisville, all fully funded!
LPN
LPN Fellowship- The LPN fellowship program encompasses LPNs within their first six months of practice at UofL Health. Specific education provides several key components to foster a smooth transition to practice.
- Orientation to UofL Health Systems and nursing departments
- Unit based orientation and department specific educational programs
- Unit based preceptors and mentors to provide support
- Online workshops addressing educational topics of interest
- Clinical observations
- Support sessions to assist with the transition and growth for each nurse fellow
- Advanced practice clinical educators as excellent resources
- Education about evidenced based practice
RN
RN Residency- Nurse residency encompasses new RNs in their first year of practice. Specific education is stretched over the first year and provides several key components to foster a smooth transition from nursing student to competent practicing nurse.
- Orientation to UofL Health Systems and nursing departments
- Unit based orientation and department specific educational programs
- Unit based preceptors and mentors to provide support
- Monthly workshops addressing educational topics of interest to the new graduate
- Clinical observations
- Support sessions to assist with the transition and growth of each nurse resident
- Advanced practice clinical educators as excellent resources
- Participation in an evidenced based practice project
RN- BSN Through University of Louisville*
Students enrolled in Jefferson Community and Technical College associate degree in nursing program may concurrently apply for UofL’s online RN to BSN program and enroll in UofL RN to BSN courses after successful completion of the first semester.
Admission criteria includes
- Successful semester of nursing at JCTC
- 2.0 cumulative GPA
- No prior failures in a nursing or science course
- Faculty recommendation for enrollment
* This pathway is aligned with the Career Mobility Program and is eligible for fully funded tuition.
How do I apply to the Career Mobility Program?
Interested applicants must submit a resume and two letters of recommendation (one personal, and one professional/academic).
