The Wanezek swimming dynasty continues! Caroline Wanezek, the third sister in the family, has committed to the University of Wisconsin for the fall of 2026, following in the footsteps of her older sisters, Abby and Maggie.
But here's what makes this story truly remarkable: Caroline is set to join a prestigious university swim program, a dream come true for many young athletes. And she's doing it with style! With a recent string of impressive performances, she's well on her way to making a splash at the collegiate level.
A Family Affair:
Caroline, a Wisconsin native, will be the third Wanezek sister to represent the Badgers. Her decision to commit to Wisconsin is a testament to the family's deep-rooted connection to the sport. Abby, currently a senior, and Maggie, a sophomore, have already made their mark on the team. Their father, Tom Wanezek, also swam competitively at Indiana, proving that swimming excellence runs in the family.
A Rising Star:
Caroline's excitement is palpable: "I'm so excited to pursue my academic and athletic dreams at Wisconsin!" she exclaimed. And her enthusiasm is well-founded. At the recent WEST Mid Season Showdown, she showcased her talent by achieving personal bests in the 50 free (23.55) and 100 back (57.66). She also nearly matched her lifetime best in the 100 free with a remarkable 50.55.
But that's not all. Just a week prior, Caroline represented her high school at the Wisconsin Girls High School Division I State Championships. She dominated the 100 fly with a lifetime best of 54.77, securing a win. She also placed 3rd in the 200 IM (2:01.99) and led her team's 400 free relay with a 50.40 split, another lifetime best.
A Bright Future:
Caroline's best times in the 100 free, 200 IM, 200 fly, and 100 fly are impressive, to say the least. And her potential is evident when compared to the 2025 Big Ten Championships qualifying times. With a little more refinement, she could be a force to be reckoned with at the collegiate level.
And this is the part most people miss—Caroline will join a Wisconsin team that finished 4th out of 14 at the 2025 Big Ten Championships. With her older sister Maggie already thriving under head coach Dr. Jack Brown, Caroline has a great role model to look up to.
The Class of 2030:
Caroline will be part of a talented incoming class, including Lindsey Schlegel, Taryn Weatherhead, Ainsley Stephan, Lilla Wilbur, Ellie Kayser, Annika Curran, and Vivian Moulson. Notably, Curran and Wanezek competed against each other in the 200 IM at the State Championships, with Curran edging out Wanezek.
The Fitter and Faster Connection:
Fitter and Faster Swim Camps, the proud sponsor of SwimSwam's College Recruiting Channel, is dedicated to celebrating these remarkable athletes and their journeys. Their innovative teaching platforms have been instrumental in developing competitive swimmers, and their camps provide a platform for swimmers of all levels to excel.
Controversy Corner:
Some might argue that Caroline's success is solely due to her family's swimming legacy. But is it fair to diminish her individual achievements? Does coming from a family of swimmers guarantee success, or is it the result of hard work and dedication? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
